After many wars, invasions, natural disasters such as the Great Plague of 1583, settlers from Genoa come to settle in Vallauris, then devastated and depopulated. All these settlers are potters, they bring with them their know-how. However, the basement of Vallauris clay contains a high quality, easy to work with, resistant, easy to cook. The vocation of the city potter was born.
